Reading Email

When you open Outlook you are immediately placed in the "Inbox." Down arrow to hear emails that are in the list of emails. When you hear an email that you want to open and read, hit the Enter key one time. The email will open and you will be able to read the content of the message. When you are finished listening to/reading the text of the email, hit the Escape key one time to return to the list of emails in the "Inbox." If you have listened to or read the email, closed it, and decided that you do not need to keep it, hit the Delete key one time and that email will be deleted to the "Deleted Items" folder. You can go there later if you need to retrieve the email, or if you want to permanently delete the email. Try the following activity to practice opening, reading and closing an email. When you feel that you are skilled with this task, there is a button titled "BACK" at the bottom of this page that will take you back to the "Outlook Lessons" web page.

1. Open Outlook.

2. Down arrow until you hear an email you want to open and read--NEVER OPEN AN EMAIL IF IT APPEARS SUSPICIOUS, OR YOU DO NOT KNOW WHO SENT IT!!!

3. Use the "read all" key command of the screen reader to read the email, if the screen reader does not automatically read it to you.

4. Hit the Escape key one time to close the email.

5. Down arrow to another email and repeat steps "2 through 4" above.

6. If you finish reading an email that you do not want to keep, hit the Escape key one time to close that email, and then hit the Delete key one time to send it to the "Deleted Items" folder.
